GROOVE ME, CASTLEMILK YOUTH COMPLEX’S VERY OWN FRIDAY CLUB NIGHT AIMS TO FACILITATE THE INTEGRATION OF ASYLUM SEEKING AND INDIGENIOUS YOUNG PEOPLE FROM CASTLMILK AND THE SURROUNDING AREAS. BUT IT ALSO GIVES YOUNG PEOPLE THE OPPORTUUNITY TO MAKE NEW FRIENDS, SHOW OFF THEIR DJ AND RAPPING SKILLS TO THEIR PEER GROUP AND BOOGIE THEIR SOCKS OFF in the dance room or r & B room IN A SAFE AND FRIENDALY ENVIRONMENT…

GROOVE ME HAS BEEN AN IMPORTANT COMMUNITY SERVICE ACCECABLE TO ALL YOUNG PEOPLE SINCE November 2006… 1183 young people have engaged in groove me with the average weekly attendance being 62… during that time it’s been action packed and beneficial to all… there has been themed discos - xmas and valentines were young people took part in our Santa’s grotto, Christmas king and queen, blind date and couple dancing competition for valentines… there’s been a karaoke competition and a 70’s and 80’s disco too with the young people jiving their souls away… a hip-hop gig too, which was organised and performed by the ‘international group’, giving them the opportunity to display their talents and hard work in writing and producing their own album to other young people… RAVE AND BREAKDANCING DANCE-OFFS IN GOOD FUN BETWEEN BOTH INDIGENUIOUS AND ASYLUM SEEKING YOUNG PEOPLE…

Groove Me has had great support from other agencies such as the police and local youth health services and other youth work organisations (Govanhill youth Project AND STREETWISE) TO HELP TACKLE AND INFORM YOUNG PEOPLE OF SOCIAL ISSUES SUCH AS DISCRIMINATION, TERRITORALISM, SAFER SEX, ALCOHOL AND DRUG ISSUES… THE PROJECT HAS ALSO GIVEN THE YOUNG PEOPLE TO TAKE THE VOLUNTEER ROLES TO DEVELOP THEIR PERSOANL ANE SOCIAL COMPETENCE BY PROVIDING A MINI, NON-ALCOHOLIC BAR FOR YOUNG PEOPLE DURING DISCOS… YOUGN PEOPLE HAVE ALSO TOOK ON COMMITMENT AND DEDICATION FOR THE PROJECT BY ORGANISING AND PARTICIPATING IN TWO FUNDRAISING SLEEPOVER S SO THAT THEY CAN INVEST IN A PROJECT THAT THEY HAVE OWNERSHIP TOO AND THAT THEY FEEL IS A VALUABLE AND WORHTWHILE SERVICE FOR ALL YOUNG PEOPLE FROM ALL CULTURES AND BACKGROUNDS…
